CTPS Checker is a Windows application that checks business telephone numbers against the CTPS Register. Data lists are loaded into the application along with either a full or partial CTPS List. The full CTPS list is all numbers currently on the CTPS Register and would be used to check data lists for the first time. The partial list is all numbers added to or removed from the CTPS Register since the last partial list was downloaded and is used for regular ongoing checks.

Once the data lists and CTPS list are loaded and selected, click the start button to begin checking. Depending on the options selected, CTPS Checker looks for numbers in the data list that are either now in the CTPE register or were previously marked as being in the CTPS register but have been removed. You can chose whether to use the CTPS Add/Delete markers or treat all numbers in the partial list as being added.

CTPS Checker supports standard comma separated variable files for the data lists, thus it works with all CRM systems that can export CSV files, such as Act, Goldmine, Microsoft Dynamics and many more.

At the end of the checking process, CTPS Checker reports the status of each data list as either "Clear" or "CTPS Review". If Clear, no numbers in the data list were in the CTPS list. If CTPS Review, data lists can be checked in the Report section to confirm the action required for numbers. Once confirmed, the reports can be saved and printed for manual updates or exported as a CSV file ready for import back into the CRM system.

Number Checking

The CTPS Checker includes a powerful number format checker. When data lists are loaded, the numbers are checked against a set of number rules. Any numbers not meeting the number rules are flagged for correction. The application comes with a comprehensive set of rules for all standard UK number formats, but can be extended with customised rules if required. Numbers flagged for correction are still normalised into a standard format for checking agains the CTPS Register: you don't have to correct numbers for them to be checked.

However, the accuracy of the check can be compromised by poorly formatted numbers. Therefore it is important that numbers not meeting the number rules are corrected as soon as possible. To facilitate this, numbers not meeting the rules can be exported to a CSV file, corrected in Excel or Notepad and then re-imported into the CRM system.

Number Normalisation

In order to check the numbers in the data list against the CTPS Register, the numbers must be converted to a standard format. The CTPS Checker includes a powerful normalisation process that removes international codes, spaces, brackets, hyphens or other non-standard characters, converting the data list number into the same fomat as supplied in the CTPS list. The original and normalised mumbers are shown in the detailed data list view.
